Legacy Trail is located at the Sports Complex at 731 S. Main. The trail was completed in 2024 and offers three different loops around the park with various distances. Each trail look has colored distance markers set along the trail. The trailhead begins at the northeast corner of the parking lot where the sign stands. Or residents can get to the trail via a connecting sidewalk from our downtown district on Main Street. Be sure to check out the Walking Story Book along the trail sponsored by the Cheney Public Library.
Since Cheney was established in 1884, many individuals have left their legacy through events and actions that helped created the foundation of our community. Today, innovative and created ideas continue to thrive, leaving a long-lasting impact on our future. This trail is dedicated to those with the reputation of leading a life to influence the future of others and for those who live for a purpose larger than themselves to bring Cheney residents and visitors a high quality of life.
The Sports Complex and Legacy Trail are the culmination of many years of planning. By gathering public input to identify the needs and wants of the community, creating and combining goals of several master plans, and securing grant funding, we hope you enjoy this outdoor space that was a vision of our residents.
Cheney Sports Complex- The idea of the 37-acre park began in 2014 when leaders from the City, USD 268, and Cheney Recreation Commission gathered to discuss the possibility of building a Recreation Complex through a collaborative effort. USD's Bond issue in 2015 constructed a top notch Baseball and Softball field with a concession/restroom facility. With ownership of the surrounding land, the City and Rec expanded the facility into the park complex you see today.
