Cheney Unified School District #268 has a proud tradition of educational excellence. In 1996, construction was completed on the new Cheney High School, creating a modern senior high/junior high complex with plenty of room to accomodate future growth. In 2001, voters passed a bond referendum for remodeling and expansion at the elementary school as well as improvements to the high school's industrial arts facilities.

Cheney students regularly score above average on standardized tests. The school distirct offers all-day kindergarten, as well as a pre-school for four-year olds. The school district has a strong arts program, including a new state-of-the-art performance art auditorium. Cheney Cardinal athletic teams are regularly among league leaders at State competitions. Sports available to CHS students include football, volleyball, golf, basketball, wrestling and track. A new gymnasium was completed as part of the new high school in 1996.

St. Paul's Lutheran School in Cheney offers an accredited, private religious education for students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Additionally, St. Paul's operates a well-respected pre-school for 3- and 4-year olds, with both morning and afternoon sessions.
