Cheney Recreation Commission Mission Statement The Cheney Recreation
Commission is dedicated to enhance the social, cultural, educational,
physical, & emotional growth of citizens of Cheney & USD #268
through quality recreational programs & activities. The Cheney Recreation
Commission was established in the early 1980s and over the years
has grown into one of the best recreation commissions in the state of
Kansas. With Cheney located about 20 miles to the west of Wichita, the
recreation commission serves the citizens of Cheney & USD #268,
but also many other communities located in west Sedgwick County. We
are in a unique situation, said Cheney Recreation Commission director
Brent Peintner, Many surrounding communities participate in our
activities. They enjoy the small town atmosphere rather than driving
into Wichita. Cheney Recreation Commission offers a wide variety of activities for all ages. Youth Sport programs include: baseball, softball, t-ball, flag football, basketball, gymnastics, swim team, tae kwon do, soccer, volleyball, Blastball, and many instructional programs. Adult Sport programs include: basketball, volleyball, flag football, tae kwon do, and softball for men and co-ed. Throughout the school year and summer many other programs are offered that include: computers, photography, arts & crafts, cooking, cheerleading, and many more. Bus trips are also
a popular choice for all ages, which include trips to: All Star Sports,
Salt City Splash Aquatic Center, Exploration Place, Crown Uptown Dinner
Theater, and many more for youth, adults and seniors. The Cheney Recreation
Commission also sponsors the Cheney Community Theater, at this time
we are without a director, so if interested give us a call. If anyone is interested in volunteering for any Cheney Recreation Commission activities contact the office at 316-542-0010. Volunteering opportunities include: coaching, activity supervision, theater production hand, and much more. Also if anyone has an idea for a program or wishes to instruct a class contact our office. The Cheney Recreation Commission produces a program guide three times a year that is distributed through the Times-Sentinel newspaper to all residents of Cheney. Additional copies are available at area businesses or by contacting the recreation office. You may also check out our website for all program, policy, and enrollment information at www.hit.net/~crc.
