Cheney business information The City of Cheney is located in western Sedgwick County, one mile east of Kingman County and just 2 miles south of Highway 54. Sedgwick County has a population of 466,061 residents and is the second largest populated county in Kansas. Cheney sits approximately 20 miles east of Kingman, 40 miles south of Hutchinson and 20 miles west of Wichita. The 2000 Census recorded the mean travel time to work at 26.3 minutes for those living in Cheney and driving to work. The total land area of Cheney is approximately 1,040 acres, or two square miles. Cheney has access to three high quality County highways and one State highway. 391st Street West and 383rd Street West carry traffic north or south to arterial connectors. A 2003 traffic study by Trans Systems Corporation tabulated a traffic count of 3,930 vehicles during a 24-hour period on Main Street at Fifth Avenue. On the north is Highway 54 which is a primary east/west State highway. MacArthur Road, or 39th Street North, is a primary east/west County arterial. County roads are in average to above average condition, Highway 54 would be classified very good and most City streets are average.
