Cheney offers a vibrant, healthy and growing economy. Cheney has continually grown and evolved over the last century. The current population of approximately 1,800 makes Cheney the most populace town in western Sedgwick County. New home construction of the last several years has continued, and growth is further evidenced by the new high school, which opened in 1996, as well as the expansion to the elementary school and further improvement of high school facilities in 2001 and 2002. More and more people in the region become acquainted with Cheney every year. Cheney State Park and Lake draws thousands of people each weekend during the summer months, with many stopping in Cheney to spend money on groceries, gas, supplies and dinner at local restaurants. The Sedwick County Fair draws over 20,000 people to Cheney over a 4-day period every July. And with Wichita's westward growth, Cheney continues to lure people who enjoy our small town atmosphere and easy access to the larger metropolitan area. The Cheney business community is diverse. Local merchants and business owners are engaged in many facets of industry and service. The City of Cheney is always interested in businesses willing to locate within Cheney.
